Christian Counseling Institute

Weekend Seminars on Critical Issues were established in March 2003.
It is an advanced stage of Christian Counseling coordinated for counselors from all over Poland, are designed to equip and prepare them for effective  assessment and intervention in critical issues such as: traumatic experiences, depression, child depression, aggression, abuse, ADHD, marital problems, family dysfunction.


We have held the following seminars so far:

2003, March 21-23, Wisła, Poland.       
Seminar: Trauma response - trauma recovery.
Lecturer: Dr. Doris Banowsky Arrington (Ph.D.)

Doris Banowsky Arrington (Ph.D.), is a Board Certified Art Therapist and a California State licensed psychologist.  She is also a Professor and Chair of the Art Therapy Psychology Department at Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont, Ca.  Dr. Arrington has produced and edited 25 videos of the life histories of presidents and pioneers in art therapy for the American Art Therapy Association.  She has authored 6 manuals, and a number of articles and chapters on art therapy as an approach to family therapy.  Charles C Thomas published her book; Home is Where the Art Is, in 2001.  She is a member of the Editorial Board of The Arts in Psychotherapy and Art Therapy, The Journal of the American Art Therapy Association (AATA).  She was awarded Honorary Life Membership in the Northern California Art Therapy Association; the Distinguished Service award from the AATA and the Outstanding Educator award from the University of San Francisco.  Dr. Arrington has a long history of working with violence and trauma.  She has worked locally in California with domestic violence and with  abused and neglected children and as a member of Menlo Park Presbyterian Church Dr Arrington has been to Kiev, Ukraine four times with Short Term Mission Teams to work with street children and share art therapy with shelter staff, physicians, counselors and orphanage directors. She is married and has 3 children and 8 grandchildren.

Seminar: A Lasting Promise. Using PREP® as a tool in marital therapy and in marriage enrichment
Lecturer: Dr. Marcia Stroup (Ph.D.), Dale Stroup

Dr. Marcia Stroup (Ph.D.), Marital and Family Therapy, has been an associate professor at Rosemead School of Psychology, Biola University, since 1990.  Before that, she founded a Christian Counseling Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. She has been a clinician doing marital/family therapy for the past 25 years. She also is an AAMFT approved supervisor.  She uses a cognitive-behavioral skills training program called PREP as part of her therapy with couples, as well as an enrichment program in the church and community.

Seminar: The Patriarch families. A study on the functioning of a family and passing on the generation values.
Lecturer: James R. Koch (MA)

James R. Koch (M.A.) – Marital and Family Therapist, Since 1982 leads a private clinic in San Jose, California. He is graduate of the California State University and Azusa Pacific University. James began his career by working with youth, and for many years he has been gaining experience in counseling. His family history includes three generations of pastors and missionaries.

Seminar: Strong Families – Strong Church. Schooling for marriages who lead or want to start ministry among married couples in their churches.
Lecturers: Henry Wieja (MD), Alina Wieja (MA)

Henryk Wieja (M.D.) and Alina Wieja (M.A.) – Founders and Executive Directors of the Life and Mission Ministry and a private Medical Center for Preventive Medicine and Complex Care  (Ustron, southern Poland). Henryk is an internist with a cardiology and preventive medicine profile. Together they are also involved in marital and family care giving ministry. Since 1996 they have taught and given lectures on basics in Christian counseling in Theological Seminaries and Bible schools in Poland. Henryk Wieja has written books on complex health issues Tajemnice pelnego zdrowia (The Mysteries Of Whole Health), Bog ktorego potrzebujemy (God Whom We Need), Moc błogosławienstwa ojca (The Power Of Father’s Blessing). Alina has written following books: Powrot kobiety do harmonii ze Stworca (The Return Of A Woman To The Creator), Kobieta w ramionach Stworcy (Woman Embraced by Love), Siedem słupów Mądrości (Seven Pillars Of Wisdom), Odbudowanie zycia w obfitosci (Raching Abundant Life), Pokonac zniechecenie (Overcoming Discouragement) and five volume text book  Jak skutecznie pomagac innym? (Helping Others Effectively).  Together they have written a book on marriage Malzenstwo o jakim marzymy (Marriage That We Dream Of). They regularly publish articles in ‘Our Inspirations’ magazine and in varied Christian and Psychological magazines issued in Poland and other countries. They are both exciting and enthusiastic teachers of the Bible. They have been speakers at conferences countrywide and internationally. Married for over 30 years, they have two adult children.

Seminar: An Introduction To Inner Healing Prayer.

Jill Dodge (MSSW) – Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has been in full-time private practice for the past 15 years.  Prior to that she served as Director of Social Services at a private psychiatric hospital.  She has also served on the Home and Family Life task forces and Caring Ministry Committees at the local and national level of her church.  Throughout her professional career she has been a frequent Retreat and Workshop leader on various topics, including parenting, crisis intervention, forgiveness, communication, depression and anxiety.  And for the past five years she has trained therapists, pastors, and lay people on how to do  prayer therapy. Jill  has a heart for missions and is currently focused on learning about cross-cultural ministry and seeking ways to share her skills and experience to support those in the mission field.

Seminar: Introduction to mental illness and personality styles.
Lecturer: Dr. Minoa Chang (Ph.D.)

Minoa Chang earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology, Alliant International University - San Diego. She has experience working with individuals with depression, anxiety disorders, and chronic mental illnesses, as well as religious/spiritual and cultural issues. She can also perform psychological evaluations ("testing") of children and adults.
Dr. Chang has been a therapist for over a decade and a half, currently working mainly with adults. She offers her services in Spanish and Portuguese, as well. Dr. Chang teaches graduate psychology and counseling courses, supervises counseling interns, and is a frequent guest lecturer/speaker. Her involvement in Christian Education has her leading Bible Studies and conducting seminars on different topics at churches. Prior to moving to the USA, Dr. Chang practiced Medicine in Brazil.
